Benjamin Disraeli Letters

The edition, published by the University of Toronto Press, provides accurate texts, reliably dated and fully annotated, of all extant Disraeli letters. The annotation gives the location of the MS of each letter whenever possible, describes all relevant physical features of each letter, explains the evidence by which each undated or partially dated letter is given a date, provides a biographical note for each person mentioned in the letters, wherever possible gives a full account of the other side of the correspondence, explains the subjects and context of each letter, and refers the reader to relevant scholarship.

Each volume includes an introduction, a chronology, a chronological list of the letters (including one of letters not found but about which there is some information), appendices of relevant documents, a list of the recipients of Disraeli’s letters, illustrations, and a name and subject index. The Project has photocopies or microfilms of over 13,000 Disraeli letters; new ones are discovered every year.

Volume VIII of the edition was published in October 2009. Volume IX has been submitted to University of Toronto Press with an anticipated publication date of 2012. The full series is expected to reach 18 volumes.

Editors of Benjamin Disraeli Letters are Michel W Pharand (Director) and Ellen Hawman (Co-editor, Research Associate). Mel G Wiebe is Director Emeritus of the Disraeli Project and a continuing editor of the series.
