Clean Air Bath is a citizens' group concerned about local air quality and the environmental impact of the Ministry of the Environment's decision to permit the burning of tires and other waste in a Bath cement plant. The group works with other local environmental groups, including Clean Air Kingston and Loyalist Environmental Coalition. http://www.cleanairbath.com/
The site focuses on topics of social justice and sustainability in Kingston, including environmental protection, animal welfare, waste & consumerism, and food choices. It features plenty of up-to-date resources on local organizations, people, events, and knowledge on how to make positive changes on leading a more humane, sustainable lifestyle. Energy House functions both as an integral part of the Environmental Technician's Program at St. Lawrence and as education centre for alternative energy for the local public school board. Founded in the spring of 2005, the Friends help the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority enhance and maintain Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area by undertaking trail and facility maintenance, and helping with events and programs. Green Drinks, a regular meeting of people interested in a wide range of environmental issues, was started in the UK and found its way to Kingston in 2005. The idea behind Green Drinks is to bring together in a social setting people from all sorts of backgrounds who care about nature or sustainability. Created in January 2000, the Kingston Environmental Advisory Forum serves as an advisory committee of City Council "with a mandate to identify environmental issues and priorities in Kingston and to assist the city in the preparation of an environmental strategy." KFN is a local nature club and non-profit charitable organization, with the objective of preserving nature and stimulating public interest while at the same time facilitating its members' appreciation of the natural world. Communities in Bloom is a non-profit Canadian organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community participation. LOW, a non-profit organization and member of the New York-based Wakerkeeper Alliance, was launched in 2001. Its focus is on clean water issues related to Lake Ontario and the Great Lakes Basin. It conducts research and public education activities on behalf of the watershed. The "newsroom" feature of the website keeps track of stories on environmental issues. Pesticides Reduction Kingston (PRK) is an ‘umbrella' educational and advocacy group made up of local residents & community organisations, working to reduce the pesticides in our community. The organization's aim is to encourage property owners, residents, corporations and the City of Kingston to use pest and weed control methods which are safer for the environment. One of the group's objective is to ensure that the City of Kingston passes (and enforces) a bylaw, similar to the City of Hudson's 1991 bylaw, to limit the private cosmetic use of pesticides. http://www.prkingston.org/
The CFGK seeks to enhance the quality of life in the Greater Kingston area by making available grants to charitable organizations and by providing leadership in the community on issues that demand urgent attention.
