WIDEN (Workshops for Inter-Discipline Exchange and Novelty) is a new initiative on campus, and is looking for speakers. WIDEN brings together three people from different fields to give casual, 10-15 minute presentations on a common theme, followed by 30 minutes of discussion.
WIDEN first began at University of Toronto in 2009, and has expanded to York, Massey College, Ryerson, Scarborough campus of UofT, and now Queen’s.
Interdisciplinary themes from past WIDEN workshops include Space (with speakers from Astronomy, Architecture and Visual Art), Color (Art History, Neuroscience, Ecology), just to name a few (see a list here <http://www.widen.ca/list/>).
We’re looking for speakers (graduate students, professional students, undergrads, staff or faculty) who are willing to present on some aspect of their expertise. Some of the themes we’re interested in exploring this term are resilience, laughter/joy, water, death/afterlife, movement, generation, pleasure, and the norm (or the anti-norm).
If you’re interested in speaking at a WIDEN event, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org, and include your name, faculty, and short description of your proposed talk.
