Colleen Greer Receives ADM Distinction Award

Colleen Greer was recognized Monday February 14, 2011 with an ADM Distinction Award from the Assistant Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Oceans for her contribution to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill response.

Shortly after the Gulf of Mexico oil spill commenced, the US Government called upon the Centre for Offshore Oil, Gas and Energy Research (COOGER; part of Fisheries and Oceans Canada) for assistance.  Employees rotated between Halifax and the Research Vessel(R/V) Brooks McCall or R/V Ocean Veritas in the Gulf for four months.  The research for Colleen's MSc is in collaboration with COOGER and as a result she volunteered to lend a hand.  During her stay on the R/V Ocean Veritas, she helped monitor dispersant application effectiveness and track the underwater oil plume.  Recently the COOGER team, including Colleen, was awarded the Assistant Deputy Minister Oceans and Science Sector Distinction Award for Excellence in Science Delivery for our outstanding contribution to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill response.
