Description:

Please join us as Dr. Constantin Siriteanu, CAREN Assistant Professor at Osaka University, gives a seminar to present his research entitled:

An Application of Computer Algebra for Evaluating the Performance of Wireless Communications Systems

This talk will present recent results on representing and computing performance measures (e.g., outage probability, ergodic capacity) for wireless communications systems with multiple antennas as solutions to differential equations. This has been done by applying computer algebraic methods to compute so-called Groebner bases. (As a simple generic example, when applied to univariate polynomials, Groebner basis computation specializes to calculating the greatest common divisor.) Such computer algebra tools have helped us obtain the mentioned differential equations, which prove indispensable for numerically evaluating communication performance at practical values of radio propagation parameters as well as for large antenna numbers relevant to modern communications systems. The presenter hopes that the audience will find that the automated computation of Groebner bases has further applications (some other were recently found in coding theory, interference alignment).
