Description:

Managing Mine Site Challenges: From Risk to Mutual Benefit With Local Communities - presented by John Kielty - For more information please follow the link provided

Abstract:

Increased access by communities to the internet and global civil society, shifting national legislation, minimum corporate social responsibility requirements by industry and international organizations and increased awareness among mining companies, is leading to greater attention on the potential negative impacts mining can have on communities. The emergence of the sustainability industry within mining is intended to manage social and environmental risks in order to ensure responsible project development and operations. This talk will explore the various types of issues that can develop into risks for the mine and discuss a different approach to security and reputational challenges that seeks to develop a favourable operating environment based on creating mutually beneficial opportunities with stakeholders and positive impacts.
