Stephen S. Poloz is Governor of the Bank of Canada. Mr. Poloz received his economics degree from Queen's University in 1978. He received his master's degree in economics in 1979 and a PhD in economics in 1982, both from the University of Western Ontario.

Governor Poloz spent 14 years at the Bank early in his career before moving to the private sector. He spent four years at BCA Research as managing editor of its flagship publication, The International Bank Credit Analyst. Mr Poloz joined Export Development Canada, the country's trade finance corporation in 1999 as Vice-President and Chief Economist. He spent two years as Senior Vice-President, Financing, with responsibility for all of EDC's lending programs. He became EDC's President and CEO in 2011, a position he held until he returned to the Bank of Canada as Governor.
