Description:

Muslim Societies-Global Perspectives Initiative at Queen’s invites the campus and Kingston community to attend a public history forum: Who was George Masoud? Kingston’s Forgotten History of Syrian Migration on Thursday January 25th, 6:30pm in B201 Mac-Corry Hall.

Dr. Gordon Dueck and the students of his HIST 344 course, “Plural Visions”,  will share their historical research on Kingston immigrant, businessman and philanthropist George Masoud.

Dr. Ariel Salzmann will illuminate the late Ottoman world of Syria and the Eastern Mediterranean, where Mr. Masoud originated and, together, we hope to discuss alternative histories and experiences of Kingston and Canada’s multicultural, multi-ethnic past in a global perspective.  How can we commemorate George Masoud’s emblematic history and important contributions to our multicultural community in Kingston?  Join our discussion!

All are welcome and light refreshments will be served!
