Writing and Language Support

The Writing Centre

The Writing Centre offers a comprehensive program of tutorials, workshops, and credit courses for students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and from all subject areas. The Centre also provides short hand-outs on specific aspects of writing and operates a lending library home to a wide range of materials on academic writing.

Queen's School of English (QSoE)

Queen's School of English offers intensive language instruction in four- and five-week programs, which focus on English for Academic Purposes and on integration of students into university life. The School also offers part-time courses in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language), Pronunciation and Conversation, Introduction to Business Communication and English for Professional Purposes (of particular interest to grad students and professionals who wish to improve their presentation and pronunciation skills). In addition to regularly scheduled sessions, QSoE also hosts tailor-made programs for contract groups.

Queen's University International Centre (QUIC)

QUIC offers free volunteer-based programs designed to strengthen English conversation and pronunciation skills, including English Conversation Groups as well as one-on-one assistance.

Centre francophone

A satellite of the Department of French Studies at Queen's, Le Centre Francophone offers French conversation courses at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels and runs a tutoring service (by appointment) through the Writing Centre. In addition, the Centre is home to a resource library featuring a broad range of resources, and provides a bulletin board advertising services offered by the Centre francophone as well as events of interest to the francophone community of Kingston.
