Useful Tips For Tri-Council Grants

Form 300 Approvals

It is currently that time of year when Principal Investigators (PIs) are responsible for approving their annual statements of account, also known as Form 300s, for projects funded by the Tri-Council agencies (NSERC, SSHRC and CIHR).

Projects which are led by other institutions, often referred to as “sub-grants”, required approved Form 300s to be submitted to the lead institutions by April 30th.  PIs would have been notified of these approvals sometime in April.

For projects which are led by Queen’s University, the related Form 300s are due to the Tri-Council agencies by June 30th of each year.  As in prior years, Research Accounting will be sending detailed email communications to PIs in mid-June, requesting the required approvals, which must be provided electronically.  Detailed instructions will be provided in the upcoming email notifications, including links to step by step instructions as well as a YouTube training video.

As mentioned in a previous communication, a significant review and clean-up was conducted for all Tri-Council funded projects over the past fiscal year, in an effort to meet eligibility requirements.  As such, you may notice unfamiliar adjustments reflected in this year’s Form 300s, which may relate to prior period transactions.  Please note that all Form 300s have been reconciled to the General Ledger up to the period ending March 31, 2014.
