The research financial report is available in one, consistent format for all research awards. Because different awards have different information, different information will appear in the report depending on the award.
Five example reports have been created and presented below. Each example explains information for a different type of research award. Please click on the PDF's below for detailed explanation and guidance.
In the new layout of the research financial report, summary and detail financial data are presented in a single report.
Examples 1-4 below provide information on the summary section of the research financial report. The 5th example provides information on the detailed section of the research financial report.
1. Summary Section of Tri-Council Example Report
Queen’s led tri-council projects do not get revenues/cash deposited directly to your research project; instead budgeted expenses are set up equivalent to the revenue you would have normally received from tri-council. This is also applicable to Queen’s led CFI-IOF’s as revenues are not deposited to these projects. These projects do not have overhead costs charged to their projects and budgets are cumulative and set annually.

2. Summary Section of CFI Example Report
Project budgets (cash to be received over entire life of project) are entered when the project is set up and the contracts are signed. These projects are mostly infrastructure type research projects like CFI and ORF-RE. In-kind transactions are not currently tracked on the CFI Financial Research Reports.
3. Summary Section of Special Research Project for Overhead Example Report
These projects do not have budgets set up in their projects as the money available to spend is based on the amount of overhead they receive as revenue/cash.

4. Summary Section of Contract projects where overhead is charged directly to the project
For these projects overhead is charged on a monthly basis. For new projects being set up in 2010, estimated budgets for overhead is separately identified at the overhead expense line.

5. Research Project Detail Transaction Report
This report explains the detail transaction for the one month period. Review of this report on a monthly basis will ensure only approved expenses have been charged to your project. This report has been created as a stand-alone document. This means the financial details presented in this example will not correspond to the financial information in the examples of the summary financial reports.
