PLAN REQUESTS (For students completing their first year)

When and where do I request my plan?

The Student Program/Plan Selection period for students ends on Friday, May 24 at midnight.

What grade do I need to get into a French major or medial plan?

Students with a C or above grade in FREN 110 or a B or above grade in FREN100 (or FREN 101 and FREN 102) can automatically be put into their requested French plan provided the request is submitted through SOLUS in the designated period and they have a cumulative GPA of 2.5. If you received C+ in your 100 level French course or your GPA is below 2.5 you will be put on the pending list. Students who received grades below C+ will not be accepted into a major or medial plan but can be considered for a minor plan.

What grade do I need to be a French Minor?

Students with a C- or above grade in FREN 100 (or FREN 110, or, FREN 101 and FREN102)  will automatically be put into their requested French minor plan provided the request is submitted through SOLUS in the designated period and they have a cumulative GPA of 2.3. Students who received grades in the D range (C- to D+) will be put on the pending list. Students below D- will not be accepted into a minor plan.

What does it take to transfer to an other French Plan?

Students who have initially taken FREN 100 in the Minor concentration may change into the Major or Medial concentration if they meet the following conditions:

a    A student who has obtained at least a B or above grade in FREN 100 may transfer into the Major or Medial concentration by taking FREN 212 and FREN 220.

b    A student with a mark of at least A- in FREN 221 and in 1.0 other 200-level credit (chosen from FREN 201*, FREN 202*, FREN 227*, FREN 266*, FREN 283*, FREN 285*, FREN 291*, FREN 295*) or in FREN 215 may transfer from the Minor into the Major or Medial concentration by taking FREN 212. Required 300- and 400-level courses are also to be chosen from those specified under the Major or Medial concentration description. The student may count FREN 100, FREN 212, FREN 221 and a maximum of 1.0 other 200-level credit in French (chosen from FREN 201*, FREN 202*, FREN 215, FREN 227*, FREN 266*, FREN 283*, FREN 285*, FREN 291*, FREN 295*) toward course requirements for the Major or Medial concentration.

c   Please note, that these academic thresholds are for students applying to plans from first-year going into second year.  They are not applicable to upper-year students wishing to change their plan.  All upper-year student change of plan requests are pending departmental approval which may or may not reflect the thresholds (ie. GPA).
