[Spring move-out]Many students will soon be moving out of residences.

April is a busy month on campus, as students complete end-of-year exams and move, either within the City of Kingston or elsewhere.

The university has again partnered with the city to provide moving-related resources and information to students.

“Our goal, as always, is for the moving process to be as straightforward and stress-free as possible for students and their family members,” says Joan Jones, Town-Gown Relations Co-ordinator.

Unusable items and garbage can be disposed of at Kingston’s waste management transfer station at 62 Remy Pl. (off Dalton Avenue) from 7 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday, and 8 am to 1 pm on Saturdays. The transfer station will have extended hours, 8 am to 4 pm, on Saturday, April 26.

From April 26 to May 1, students can also drop off items like unopened food, clothes, hazardous waste, electronic waste, bicycles and bicycle parts, books and personal hygiene items at the JDUC.

In addition, April 26 is Giveaway Day in Kingston. Residents are invited to put out reusable items they no longer want for neighbours who might like them. The city does not pick up Giveaway Day items left at the curb at the end of the day. Owners remain responsible for proper disposal of any remaining items. For a list of items that are and are not suitable for Giveaway Day, visit the City of Kingston website.

Other co-ordinated services offered for students include:

  • Distribution of informational doorknob hangers in the near campus neighbourhood.
  • Selling moving materials (boxes, tape, etc.) in the JDUC from now until the end of April.
  • Charity clothing and food donation pickup in residence lounges.

A Facebook group called Queen’s Free & For Sale is also a great resource for buying and selling items.
