Available Expert - German coalition leader says EU must become United States of Europe

Thursday, December 7, 2017

Queen's University political expert Grant Amyot is available to comment on German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s planned coalition partner Martin Schulz suggesting the European Union must become the United States of Europe by 2025.

"German Social Democratic leader Martin Schulz is launching negotiations by setting a very high price for his party's support for Chancellor Angela Merkel,” says Dr. Amyot. “This ambitious proposal to turn the EU into a United States of Europe with its own minimum social and employment standards is sure to be opposed by both business interests and the poorer member states."
