Available Expert - National carbon tax

Thursday, May 18, 2017

Queen's University energy policy expert Warren Mabee is available to comment in advance of today's release of a federal discussion paper on a proposed carbon tax. The paper will outline how the Government of Canada plans to impose a national tax on carbon emissions, and how this will be implemented in co-operation with provinces and territories that have unique and varied carbon price plans.

"The key goal of a price on carbon needs to be to change behaviour, all the way from industry to individuals," says Dr. Mabee. "It remains to be seen whether the carbon pricing scheme proposed by the federal government will meet this goal."

Dr. Mabee is the Canada Research Chair in Renewable Energy Development and Implementation and the director of the Queen's Institute for Energy and Environmental Policy (QIEEP). His research focus includes renewable energy policy as well as policies and technologies related to the environment and energy. He is available for phone interviews, prior to 12 pm EDT.

To arrange an interview, please contact communications officer Chris Armes (613-533-6000 ext. 77513 or chris.armes@queensu.ca) or Anne Craig (613-533-2877 or anne.craig@queensu.ca) at Queen’s University News and Media Services Department in Kingston, Ont., Canada.
