Available Expert - New census data shows Canadians are earning more

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

Queen’s University census expert Mark Rosenberg is available to comment on new data released by Statistics Canada that Canadians are earning more than they did in the previous 10 years and fewer young children are living in low-income households.

The numbers also show most Canadian households are saving for their retirement and more couples are contributing equally to their earnings.

“While the news on income is generally positive, the growth in the percentage of low income seniors may point to a larger trend that will only be revealed as more people enter retirement years in the coming decades,” says Dr. Rosenberg.
