Available Expert - Report finds Canada slow on clean tech investment

Thursday, April 20, 2017

Queen's University clean energy expert Warren Mabee is available to comment on a report issued today on investment in the clean technology industry.

The report, prepared by the firm Analytica Advisors, found that growth in the industry has slowed in recent years and profits retained by companies in Canada have continued to decline - leading to five straight years of negative returns. At the same time, the report says Canada’s global market share in clean technology dropped 12 per cent from 2008 to 2015, when it stood at 1.4 per cent. If the industry continues on the same trajectory, the report predicts that, by 2022, as many as 42,000 fewer jobs will be created in the field.

Dr. Mabee is the Canada Research Chair in Renewable Energy Development and Implementation and the director of the Queen's Institute for Energy and Environmental Policy (QIEEP). His research focus includes renewable energy policy as well as policies and technologies related to the environment and energy,
