FOOTBALL

The Queen’s Gaels football team opened their OUA season with a 34-24 win at home over a game Carleton Ravens squad Sunday at Richardson Stadium.

The Gaels had to battle back after going down 14-0 early.

Running back Jesse Andrews and wide receiver Doug Corby had a pair of touchdowns each and quarterback Nate Hobbs finished the game with two touchdowns on 24-of-36 passing for 338 yards in his first start.

Nelka Kwemo led the Gaels defence with seven tackles.

The Gaels travel to Ottawa next Sunday to face the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sept. 6 at 1pm. The Gaels return home on Sept. 12 to take on Waterloo.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

The Queen’s Gaels women’s soccer team ended their opening weekend with a draw and a loss.

The Gaels started off with a 1-1 draw Saturday against the defending OUA champion Ottawa Gee-Gees as Tara Bartram netted the equalizer in the 50th minute.

On Sunday, the Gaels couldn’t hang on in the second half as they fell 3-2 against the Carleton Ravens. Brittany Almeida and Jessie de Boer scored for the Gaels.

Queen's will take on the Toronto Blues in their home opener Sept. 5 at 1pm on Miklas-McCarney Field.

MEN'S SOCCER

The Queen’s Gaels men’s soccer team kicked off their season in Ottawa on Sunday earning a 1-1 draw against the Carleton Ravens.

After giving up an early goal the Gaels responded late in the second half as Jacob Schroeter found the back of the net. Goalkeeper Taylor Reynolds had a strong match with five saves.

Queen's will take on the Toronto Blues in their home opener Sept. 5 at 3:15 pm on Miklas-McCarney Field.
