March Break is almost here and Queen’s University is offering a number of opportunities to keep young students active and engaged.

Once again Athletics and Recreation is offering their March Break Camps, with six week-long (March 14-18) options to choose from as well as two single-day options.

A number of the camps are of the sporting variety – Active FUNdamental Camp, Indoor Field Sports Camp, March Mayhem Basketball Camp and Sports Camp – but also on offer is an introductory Guitar Camp and Little Explorers , which is aimed at children aged four to six and filled with all kinds of activities.

Spots are still available and Queen’s employees receive a 5 per cent discount by using the coupon code SPRINGSTAFF. For more information or to register visit the Athletics and Recreation’s website.

New this year, the Agnes Etherington Art Centre (AEAC) is offering a March Break camp called ARTmania. At the weeklong camp (March 14-18), budding artists aged 8-12 can explore their creative side further  with artist Phoebe Cohoe, who also led the Summer SmARTs camps, through projects that focus on telling stories through pictures, using flip-books and other low-tech animation devices.

“I’m pleased to offer this new art day camp during March Break, which follows from the success of our Summer SmARTs camps,” says Pat Sullivan, Public Programs Manager for the AEAC. “Our camps are unique because we develop the program in relation to the original art seen in our exhibitions and they are led by highly-qualified teaching artists. I think this offers children, who like art, a great opportunity to expand their imaginations and their skills.”

The camp was initiated with the support of the Rita Friendly Kaufman Fund.

Further information and registration forms can be downloaded here. A limited number of full or partial bursaries are also available.

At the Museum of Health Care the focus will be on sinking your teeth into history with The Truth Behind the Tooth.

The special event offers fun activities, crafts and an historical reenactment. Suitable for children aged 6-12, attendees can learn about the amazing history of dentistry and oral hygiene from mysterious tooth worms to minty-fresh toothpaste. Individual sessions are being held: Wednesday, March 16, 10-Noon; Thursday, March 17, 10-Noon; Friday, March 18, 10-Noon; Friday March, 18, 2-4 pm.  The museum is located in the Anne Bailie Building at 32 George St.

There is a $5 participant fee but accompanying adults get in free. Pre-registration is required. Call (613) 548-2419, email info@museumofhealthcare.ca, or book online.

High school students and their families also have the chance to see what Queen’s University offers through the annual March Break Open House, which is being held Saturday, March 19.

Through the open house prospective students can learn more about Queen’s through campus and building tours, taste the food in the dining halls and even attend lectures given by some of the university’s professors.

The open house runs from 8 am to 5 pm but some events are not offered all day. To register or see the full list of events visit the March Break Open House webpage.
