No. 7 Gaels stay perfect

A roundup of Queen's Gaels teams in action over the weekend:

Women’s Basketball

The Queen’s Gaels women’s basketball team kept their perfect record intact with a pair of wins over the weekend.

On Saturday, the Gaels (4-0) topped the Waterloo Warriors (2-1) 93-63 at the ARC. The Gaels pulled away in the second quarter and cruised to the win. Marianne Allarie led the way for the home side with 17 points while Emily Hazlett added 11.

On Friday the No. 7 nationally-ranked Gaels beat the Laurier Golden Hawks (3-1) 84-78 at the ARC. The teams were tied 62-62 after three quarters but the Gaels were able to pull away for the win.

Men’s Basketball

The Queen's Gaels men’s basketball team (3-1) opened an early lead on the Waterloo Warrors (0-3) and held on for a 78-59 victory Saturday at the ARC. Tanner Graham had a game-high 16 points to go with 16 boards for a double-double. He was also credited with five blocks and four assists.

A strong start also helped the Gaels past the Laurier Golden Hawks (1-3) 80-68 in their OUA home opener on Friday. Tanner Graham, Sukhpreet Singh and Isse Ibrahim had 15 points each.

Men’s Volleyball

The Queen's Gaels men’s volleyball team (5-2) lost in five sets to the Guelph Gryphons (5-1) 29-31, 20-25, 25-20, 25-21, and 15-6. After a very tight four sets Guelph was nearly flawless when it mattered in the fifth. Markus Trence led the Gaels attack with 23 kills and added 10 digs. Joel Rudd added a team-high 11 digs.

On Friday, the Gaels beat the Waterloo Warriors (1-3) in five sets 28-30, 25-17, 25-22, 23-25, 15-13. 

Women’s Volleyball

The Queen's Gaels women’s volleyball team (3-4) earned a weekend split by defeating the Guelph Gryphons (2-4) in five sets Saturday in Guelph, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 13-25 and 15-13. Caroline Livingston finished with a game-high 20 kills plus 14 digs.

On Friday the Gaels took the opening set but fell 3-1 to the Waterloo Warriors (2-2) in Waterloo. The Gaels opened the game strong by taking the first set 25-22 but fell short of the Warriors losing the next three sets 25-17, 25-18 and 25-11. Isabelle Korchinski finished with eight kills and 17 digs to lead the Gaels.

Women’s Hockey

The Queen's Gaels (4-1-6-0) defeated the Windsor Lancers (4-0-5-2) 3-2 in overtime Saturday night at the Memorial Centre thanks to a goal from Clare McKellar. Addi Halladay scored twice for the Gaels. Two minutes into overtime, McKellar scored for Queen's on an end-to-end rush to win the game.

Men’s Hockey

The No. 10 Queen's Gaels (10-3-1) got back in the win column with a 2-1 road win over the Concordia Stingers (9-4-0) Saturday in Montreal. After Concordia opened the scoring Peter Angelopolous tied the game and Slater Doggett added the winner in the second period.

On Friday, the Gaels were defeated 5-2 by the UQTR Patriotes (8-4-1). Doggett and Eric Ming scored for Queen’s.
