Accessing and tracking equity-related training has become a lot easier thanks to a new portal launched by the Equity Office.

Jill Christie, Manager, Data and Administration, Equity Office, demonstrates the new Equity Training Portal. The portal links to various training resources and lets faculty, staff and students see what equity training they have completed and what training they still need to take.

Using their Queen’s NetId, faculty, staff and students can log in and see what equity training they have completed and what training they still need to take. The portal also links to various online training resources.

“Everyone at Queen’s shares the responsibility for ensuring the campus community is accessible and inclusive for all individuals,” says Irène Bujara, University Advisor on Equity and Human Rights. “With this portal, faculty, staff and students have a straightforward way to access the resources they need to support the university’s overall commitment in these areas.”

The Equity Training Portal is available by clicking on this link. Once users are signed in, they will find the online training suite that’s required under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). The training suite consists of four modules:

  • Accessible Customer Service
  • Human Rights 101
  • Access Forward
  • Accessible Instruction for Educations

All staff, faculty, administrators, volunteers and student leaders at Queen’s must complete the first three trainings. The fourth training is required for all faculty members and anyone else involved in the development or delivery of materials, activities and assessments of learning to Queen’s students.

“The portal is much more robust than anything we’ve had in the past,” says Jill Christie, Manager, Data and Administration, Equity Office. “The portal clearly breaks down all four components of the AODA training, helping users better understand which trainings they have completed and which ones remain.”

The portal also provides information and schedules for in-person employment equity workshops. It tracks which employment equity training you have taken and indicates whether or not it has expired.  Under the collective agreement between Queen’s University Faculty Association and the university, members (excluding students) serving on appointment committees for faculty, librarian or archivist positions or on personnel committees must take employment equity training every 10 years. Furthermore, for committee members who are designated employment equity representatives, they can find on the portal a schedule for the additional training they must complete.

Visit the Equity Office website to learn more about the training it provides. If you have questions about the Equity Training Portal, contact Ms. Christie via email.
