Mark your calendar for Teaching Development Day on Sept. 9, the professional development conference hosted annually by the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL).

All educators at Queen’s are invited to attend this popular event, as well as an open house to unveil the CTL’s new collaborative space.

“Teaching Development Day is an opportunity for anyone who teaches at Queen’s to learn about new and innovative developments in teaching and learning and to discuss successful strategies with their colleagues,” says Peter Wolf, Associate Vice-Provost (Teaching and Learning) and Director of the CTL. “This is a signature event for the CTL and it continues to attract hundreds of participants each year because it provides useful strategies for educators to enhance the learning process for students.”

This year’s conference kicks off with an interactive session on tag-team teaching led by James Fraser (Physics) and Ph.D. candidate Kevin Alexander. The session focuses on a four-step plan to better engage students through a learning community that includes collaboration between faculty and graduate students.

Many sessions throughout the day will focus on faculty and graduate student collaboration and how a team approach can enhance success in the classroom. Other sessions focus on such topics as: peer-to-peer teaching; active learning; preparing your first tutorial; stress management; building an open textbook; and providing effective feedback on student writing.

There is no cost to attend Teaching Development Day. Full program details and registration are available online.

Everyone in the Queen’s community is invited to attend the CTL’s open house to unveil its new collaborative space on the second floor of Mackintosh-Corry Hall. Stop by the CTL in F200 anytime from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm or attend a short ceremony from 1-1:15 pm that includes refreshments and cake.
