Students International Experience Travel Awards

The International Experience Awards program is intended to provide students with a unique international planning experience. Three to five awards are provided per school year to full-time students (at the time of application) in The School of Urban and Regional Planning.  Recipients for the past ten years:

The International Experience Awards is just one of the School's extensive international outreach activities. The most prominent program is our exchange with China's Ministry of Land and Resources. Last year about 40 senior officials were brought to Canada for training at the School of Urban and Regional Planning.

The School also participates in Student Summer Internships in Beijing at the China Academy of Land and Resources Economics and at the China Land and Surveying and Planning Institute.  Participants have included:

Through the offices of China's Ambassador, Queen's University signed a general Memorandum of Understanding with Fudan University, Shanghai on student and faculty exchanges. This agreement includes the establishment of a co-laboratory on Urbanization and the Environment. The first project being conducted under this agreement examines the impact of Shanghai's urbanization on its surrounding water quality.  The following SURP students went to Fudan University:

Students are also able to participate in an Academic Exchange with partner institutions the University of Western Australia (Australia), the University of Otago (New Zealand) and Pune (India).
In the Winter 2013, Shwaan Hutton ('14), John (Jack) Huffman ('13) and Jeremy Johnston ('13) went on exchange to the University of Western Australia and Sarah Bingham ('12) went there in the Winter of 2012.
In the Fall 2012, Angus Robertson and Bridge Ford came to Queen's from the University of Otago.  In the Fall of 2011 Claire Boland and Dylan Stokes came to Queen's from the University of Western Australia and Claire Lindsay visited from the University of Otago.

We also run International Project Courses to date to Shanghai, China (2011), Auroville, India (2012, 2013, and 2015) and Pune, India (2014).
