Research Interests

Daniela’s research interests are urban tunnelling and tunnel boring machines (TBM), specifically Earth Pressure Balance Machines, clogging evaluation and flow behaviour of conditioned soils.

Keywords: Mechanized tunnelling, urban tunnelling, mixed ground, tropical residual soil, clogging potential, flow behaviour.

Brief Biography  

Daniela Oliveira studied Geology at the São Paulo University, Brazil, where she also completed her master degree. Now she is close to complete her PhD thesis in Engineering Geology at Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada, in collaboration with Ruhr University Bochum, Germany, under the supervision of Prof. Mark Diederichs and Prof. Markus Thewes. Her main research topic is the excavation of mixed clay-sand soils with EPB machines. She has previously worked for many years with urban tunnelling in Brazil, and, currently she lives in Germany, where she works for the Herrenknecht company, at the Research & Development Department.
