Research Interests

Daniela’s research interests are currently based in urban tunnelling and tunnel boring machines (TBM), specifically the interactions between the TBM with a residual soil-weak rock transitional ground, also called mixed ground. This research also involves soil-rock Geological-Geotechnical characterization, rock mass classifications, as well as machine design, face pressure calculations and the excavation process itself.

Brief Biography  

Daniela completed a B.Sc. in Geology at São Paulo University in 2000. She worked as a geologist in the area of engineering geology in different fields, such as site investigation, hydro power plant design, underground mining, geotechnical engineering for urban tunnelling and subway design. She has worked for several companies in São Paulo, including governmental companies such as São Paulo Metro Company (CMSP) and the Brazilian Geological Service (CPRM). She completed a M.Sc. in Hydrogeology at São Paulo University in 2015, studying the application of the optical televiewer data for urban tunnelling design. Currently, she is a PhD candidate at Queen’s University with Prof. Mark Diederichs as a supervisor and a participant in the Working Group 2 – Research at the ITA – AITES International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association.
