Dr. Narbonne Elected Chair of IGCP

Dr. Guy Narbonne outside UNESCO HQ in Paris

Congratulations to professor Guy Narbonne, who was elected Chair of the International Geoscience Programme (IGCP), a joint initiative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) at the annual meeting at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris in February.

IGCP is dedicated to scientific research supporting the use of geology “in the service of society" through studies in Hydrogeology, Geodynamics, Geohazards, Global Change, and Earth Resources. The main focus of IGCP is on establishing projects and communication dealing with these issues worldwide - principally between developed and developing countries and increasingly among different developing countries. Last year, IGCP supported 26 IGCP projects with nearly 4000 participants representing 120 countries worldwide.

Further information is available on the IGCP website.

Congratulations Guy!
