UNDERGRADUATE SPOTLIGHT: ELEANOR MCAULEY

Hometown: Odessa, Ontario

Program: Geological Engineering

Current year: Third Year

Why I chose Geology:

I came in first year and wanted to find a way to do engineering outside and applied to the earth which made geological engineering a great choice.

Student involvement/extracurricular activities I am involved with:

Policy Chair of the Engineering Society Advisor Board

Applied Science Class of 17 Vice-President

Past Director of Internal Affairs for the Engineering Society

Hockey Referee in the Kingston Community

The professor(s) or course which has influenced me the most so far:

Dr. Peterson and his mineralogy course have influenced me the most so far. The course was like nothing I have seen before and both challenged and interested me. I wasn’t sure of I would like the large science aspect of geological engineering but Peterson’s class showed me that I love it. I had the opportunity to work for him for a summer and was able to learn so many interesting and applicable techniques that I hope to use in the future.

Most memorable Queen’s experience so far:

My most memorable experience at Queen’s was field school and the end of second year. The trip was awesome and I had the opportunity to bond so much over those two weeks with my fellow classmates. From frantic colouring to being lost in the woods, the amount of learning and fun that occurred was incredible. The TAs and professors are great resources and also a ton of fun.

After I graduate, I:

Would like to get my professional Engineering accreditation and look into going into the business side of geology potentially through resource exploration.

One big goal I’d like to accomplish during my lifetime:

I would like to be able to travel and see the natural wonders of the world. Learning and being outside are things that I will always love and hope I get to experience them my entire life.
