Thesis Topic : Investigation of the effect of saturation on intact and jointed granite and the linkage between rock discontinuity behaviour under direct shear strength and triaxial compressive strength testing methods.
Supervisor: Dr. Mark Diederichs and Dr. Jennifer Day (University of New Brunswick)

Brief Biography

Mariem Tahra Ahmed Labeid completed a B.A.Sc. in Geological Engineering at Queen’s University, Spring 2017. In Fall 2017, she started a M.A.Sc. in the same field at Queen’s University under the supervision of Dr. Mark Diederichs (Queen’s University) and Dr. Jennifer Day (University of New Brunswick). Mariem’s thesis focusses on the investigation of the effect of saturation on the geomechanical properties of granite as part of the on-going site selection for the future development of a high-level nuclear waste Deep Geological Repository (DGR) by the Nuclear Waste Management Organisation (NWMO). The second objective of Mariem’s thesis work is the comparison of discontinuity behaviour under direct shear strength and triaxial compressive strength testing methods.
