Steve Rose, In Memoriam

Shortly before 4:00pm on Friday, June 29th, Steven Vincent Rose passed peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and children.

Steve was a loving husband, father, son, brother, mentor, and friend to many throughout his life. Steve grew up as a frequent traveler, with his father’s work taking the Rose family through Belgium, France, South Africa, and England before Steve spent his Grade 13 studying (and playing semi-professional rugby) in Switzerland.

Dr. Helmstaedt Awarded 2018 CFES Mentorship Medal

Congratulations to Dr. Herb Helmstaedt, Professor Emeritus, who has been awarded the 2018 CFES Mentorship Medal from the Canadian Federation of Earth Sciences. This award recognizes the sustained and inspirational mentorship of colleagues and employees including peers, graduate students, undergraduate students and technicians. The sole criterion for the award is excellence in mentoring over a sustained period of time.

Two PhD Students Receive Prestigious Awards

Congratulations to PhD students, Kaj Sullivan and Neil Fernandes, who have both been awarded the 2018 Hugh C. Morris Experiential Learning Fellowship from the Kimberley Foundation. The fellowship is valued from $30 to $40k each, and is intended to fund a year long experiential learning program.
