Grad Student Receives TAC Scholarship Award

Congratulations to graduate student, Timothy Packulak, BSc'14, on receiving the Dan Eisenstein Memorial Scholarship from the Tunnelling Association of Canada (TAC). The Dan Eisenstein Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a post-graduate student planning to undertake or currently undertaking post-graduate studies in the field of tunnelling at a recognized university in Canada. The scholarship amount is $6,000.
The award was presented to Tim at the 2017 Tunnelling Association of Canada Achievement Awards...

Recent Grad Wins Best AfriRock 2017 Paper by a Young Author

Congratulations to recent graduate, Dr. Ehsan Ghazvinian MSc'10, PhD'15, on being awarded the Best AfriRock 2017 Paper by a Young Author award, from the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM). Dr. Ghazvinian won the award for his paper titled, "Progress of Brittle Micro-fracturing in Crystalline Rocks Under Cyclic Loading Conditions".

The award was presented at the International Society of Rock Mechanics (ISRM) International Symposium, AFRIROCK 2017, which took place September 30 - October 6, 2017 in Cape Town, South Africa.

On Friday, September 15, Doug Schmitt, University of Alberta, will be giving a talk in the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering.

Doug is the 2017-18 CSEG Distinguished Lecturer for 2017-18
