Thesis Topic Investigating the geomechanics and public safety risks associated with the instability potential of popular geotourist sea stack rock formations
Supervisor Dr. Jennifer Day

Research Interests

Geomechanics, geohazards, sea stack rock formations, wave and tidal erosion, public safety risk, photogrammetry, numerical modelling

Brief Biography

Amanda completed a B.Sc.E degree in Geological Engineering at the University of New Brunswick in May of 2020. In the summer of 2019, Amanda worked as a Research Assistant for Terrane Geoscience Inc., where she began researching rock slope stability of coastal sea stacks. After graduating, she worked on a tailings dam project at Detour Lake Mine for BGC Engineering inc. on-site as a construction monitor or in the office managing the field data. Amanda is currently working on her M.A.Sc. where she aims to evaluate the geomechanical behaviour of multiple sea stacks by unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based photography, 3D photogrammetry models, and discrete element geomechanics numerical modelling software. This research project also aims to develop risk profiles for public safety and ultimately provide insight to Parks associated with these formations on the future potential failures of sea stacks.
