About Callum

Callum Walter completed a B.Sc.E. degree in geological engineering at Queen’s University with a focus on applied geophysics. In 2016, he started a M.A.Sc. at Queen’s University working with Dr. Alexander Braun and Dr. Georgia Fotopoulos in applied geophysics and was upgraded to the PhD program in September 2017. Callum’s thesis investigates how to optimally design and integrate unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with high-resolution magnetometers for UAV-borne aeromagnetic data collection in the mineral exploration industry. In addition, Callum completed a MITACs internship within this thesis, working alongside Sumac Geomatics Inc. in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. This collaboration resulted in the successful design and integration of a UAV-borne aeromagnetic system and a case study demonstrating the reliable collection of UAV-borne aeromagnetic magnetic data.
