Student GSA grants in the QTRL group

Congratulations to Renaud Soucy La Roche, Lindsay Waffle, and Rohanna Gibson on receiving GSA (Geological Society of America) Research Grants, of $1,500 each. The awards are in support of their graduate research in the Himalaya.

Rohanna Gibson was also awarded an additional $2,000 by the Mineralogy, Geochemistry, Petrology and Volcanology Group of the GSA.

The students' research will contribute to their individual thesis topics, as follows:

Rohanna Gibson: Along-strike variation of strain and the timing of deformation in the lower Himalayan metamorphic core, west-central Nepal

Renaud Soucy La Roche: Emplacement processes of Himalayan external crystalline nappes, western Nepal

Lindsay Waffle: Effects of basement highs on orogen-parallel strain partitioning: A case study of the Faizabad ridge in Northern India using centrifuge analogue modelling

The students are all part of Dr. Laurent Godin's research group, the Queen’s Tectonics Research Laboratory (QTRL).
