German 201* is a one-term intermediate course intended for students who have a basic knowledge of the language. The course reviews and builds upon the material covered in GRMN 101*/102*. The goals of the course are to enhance basic communication skills and to advance an understanding of German as a living language by placing it in the context of German culture, society, history, politics and geography. German 202* is a one-term intermediate course intended for students who have a basic knowledge of the language. The course reviews and builds upon the material covered in GRMN 201*. The goals of the course are to enhance basic communication skills and to advance an understanding of German as a living language by placing it in the context of German culture, society, history, politics and geography. GRMN 203*

 German Conversation and Culture

GRMN 203* is an intermediate conversation course designed to advance skills in oral communication and cultural competence, supported by grammar instruction and written assignments. Students will engage with different media sources, including German-language television, film, internet, print media and music. PREREQUISITE: At least 65 per cent in GRMN 102* or equivalent or permission of the Department. More information on GRMN 203.

An Introduction to the contemporary terminology and usage of German in the workplace. Listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills will be developed through a variety of activities. This course also aims at developing cross-cultural awareness. The successful completion of German 206*/207* and 306*/307* prepares the student for the business exam Zertifikat für den Beruf.

This course teaches highly specialized language skills through a computer program in the student's individual area of interest, discipline or research field, i.e., humanities, business and economic, chemistry and music, and leads to a reading knowledge of German comparable to fourth-year language courses. Students work independently and must have access to a computer (IBM PC or compatible computer capable of running Windows) with CD-ROM capability. More information on GRMN 262.
