Student Assistance

By choosing to direct your giving towards an award, bursary, scholarship or fellowship, you will be giving the gift of education to a deserving student, building on the reputation of the University, and making a significant impact on Canada's economy and society. You can either create your own fund or donate to an existing one; the Student Awards website is an excellent resource.

General Student Assistance fund:

Gifts to our general Student Assistance fund allow Queen's the greatest flexibility in responding to student needs and reacting to changing circumstances.  This endowed fund supports the demonstrated achievement and outstanding potential of all Queen's students - from all programs and years, from entrance to graduate school.  Support this fund now.

Named funds:

Endowed gift amounts can be used in many different ways to ensure that the bursary, award, or scholarship lives on forever. A minimum gift of $50,000 will establish an endowed fund that can be named for you, a loved one, or perhaps a favourite professor. Each year, the interest will be distributed to students, providing much needed funds so they can complete their studies.

Examples of the types of funds that can be created:

  • Merit-based Scholarships
These are designed to reward the exceptional accomplishments of our incoming and current students. The opportunities range from a one-year scholarship to four-year renewable scholarships. They can be open to all students or designed with preference given to a specific Faculty or Program.

  • Need-based Bursaries
Available to both entering and upper-year students, these bursaries are offered to candidates who have demonstrated financial need. The bursaries bridge the gap between a student's resources and their expenses for the academic year.

  • Awards with an International Focus
These awards help international students to come to Queen's and continue their studies here. They also assist Queen's upper-year students to gain knowledge and leadership skills by enabling them to participate in a study abroad experience.  Funding requirements may be higher than $50,000.
