Campus Community Appeal

It's clear that the staff, faculty and retirees of Queen's consider campus to be more than just a place to earn a salary. Last year, this ambitious community came together to raise more than $900,000 for the Campus Community Appeal, a campaign that promotes a personal approach to giving. A new "You Made a Difference to Me" initiative within the fund supports a wide range of university services while honouring colleagues and mentors who make a difference.

Physical Plant Services staff members Chris Russell and Stephen Kincaid made a contribution to the Appeal in 2010 to pay tribute to Queen's alumnus and longtime supporter Alfred Bader. An inspiring chance meeting with Dr. Bader in 1999 and a shared love of the arts moved the pair to make a gift in Dr. Bader's name.

"Giving to the Campus Community Appeal in honour of Dr. Bader is our way of saying thanks to someone who has unselfishly provided so much to Queen's over the years," says Mr. Kincaid.

Community members can choose to direct a one-time contribution towards a specific project or designate monthly payroll deductions to enhance departmental operations or other activities. Donations from the Appeal support all areas of the university, including research, student services and a variety of programming, including art.

Janet Brooke, Director of the Agnes Etherington Art Centre, says that the gift honouring Dr. Bader is most fitting, given his generous contributions to the arts at Queen's – and especially because the Appeal fund is vital to many of the Centre's activities.

"We value the support of our campus community, which allows us to offer a wide range of programs – from our perennially popular noon-time Art Matters tours to evening film screenings and studio art courses," she says. "Every gift truly matters."
