Dear Queen's Supporter,

Queen's Rehabilitation Therapy students' lessons are not confined to the classroom.

We are agents of change that awaken change in others

As they learn and research, our students question why things are done as they are, challenge themselves and the profession to strive for even better patient care and, with the support of alumni gifts to the Rehabilitation Therapy Student Experience Fund, impact practice in Canada.

We motivate, inspire and empower people to engage in meaningful activities

With support from the Rehabilitation Therapy Student Experience Fund, Jason Cheng, OT'10 produced an inspirational video to share his philosophy on OT.

"Occupational therapists are agents of change," Jason's video tells us. "We help enable participation in meaningful occupations to facilitate positive health and well-being regardless of ability, age, social status or other characteristics."

The Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists Conference organizing committee was so inspired, Jason's video was incorporated in their opening ceremonies.

Jason invited participants to explore how they are agents of change through their practice and how they can help their patients' envision possibilities beyond what the clients feel their limitations allow.

We generate ripples in the sea of health,
and leave waves in our path to well-being

As a student, Ange Capson, PT'10 was the Queen's nominee for the Physiotherapy Foundation of Canada's "Ann Collins Whitmore Student Research Competition" in 2010. Selected as a finalist, Ange was invited to present her work at the Canadian Physiotherapy Association's annual congress in St. John's.

Sharing her findings and recommendations on "the role of lumbopelvic posture on pelvic floor muscle activation and intra-vaginal pressure generation in continent women" among her PT colleagues, allowed Ange to impact the way they understand and prevent patients' accidental bladder leakage symptoms – and to win the competition!

Made possible through our gifts

Bringing theory out of the classroom and ensuring students have the opportunity to share their research and expertise with professional colleagues is invaluable, both to their education at Queen's and to the ongoing advancement of the field.

As alumni, your gifts are critical to ensuring Queen's students like Jason, Justin, Krista and Ange continue to enjoy top quality learning both in and beyond the classroom.

They can't do it without you. Please, add your support with a gift to the Rehabilitation Therapy Student Experience Fund today.

Yours in thanks,
Elsie Culham
Director, School of Rehabilitation Therapy
