SXGD Visitor 2011
The Department of Gender Studies and Four Directions Aboriginal Centre community welcomed Daniel Heath Justice as our SXGD Guest Speaker and Faculty of Arts and Science Visiting Scholar in February 2011. Daniel is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and holds the position of associate professor of Aboriginal Literatures in the Department of English and affiliated faculty in Aboriginal Studies at the University of Toronto. He is the author of Our Fire Survives the Storm: a Cherokee Literary History and of the Indigenous fantasy trilogy, The Way of Thorn and Thunder.
During his visit to Queen's, Daniel Heath Justice gave guest lectures in GNDS 215 (Introduction to Sexual and Gender Diversity) and ENGL 873 ("Carrying the Memory of Peace": Exploring Indigenous Masculinities through Literature), held a mentoring lunch with graduate students in SAGE - Support Aboriginal Graduate Enhancement, and met with the Aboriginal Council to envision the future of Indigenous Studies at Queen's. He also gave a public lecture entitled "Four Questions: Critical Kinship in Theory and Practice" and met students and members of the community afterwards for conversation.
