On Saturday, January 23rd, the History Department took to the ice and faced off in our first annual bonspiel! After a brief lesson from our very own curling pro, Dave Thompson, eight amateur teams of graduate students, faculty and staff competed for the ultimate glory - otherwise known as chocolate. The faculty and staff participants met a mixed fate, with Principal Woolf, Cheryl Des Roches and Jeff Brison eliminated in the first round, but David Parker and Cathy Dickison hanging on until the end. The graduate students also had mixed success, with Claire Cookson-Hills, Alison Ward, Kelly Bennett, Christo Aivalis, James Quirk, Maria Moncur, Rob Dennis, Rankin Sherling and Matt Trudgen playing in the finals, while others cheered, socialized, and played non-competitive games. Thank you to everyone who helped us kick off the semester in style (or duct tape, as the case may be). You made the event a huge success!
