Karen Dubinsky's co-edited anthology Habáname, la ciudad musical de Carlos Varela published

Karen Dubinsky's co-edited anthology Habáname, la ciudad musical de Carlos Varela (The Musical City of Carlos Varela) was recently published in Havana by Centro Cultural Pablo de la Torriente Brau.  It will be launched in February during the Havana Book Fair at an event in the Museo de Bellas Artes (National Museum of Fine Art) in Havana.  The musician Carlos Varela, a beloved and controversial chronicler of Cuban realities, is a regular participant in the Development Studies 305 "Cuban Culture and Society" course which brings Queen's students to Havana.  Dubinsky co-edited this anthology with colleagues in Havana and the U.S., and contributed the introduction and a chapter about Varela's perspective on Cuban history.  An English version of the book will be published by the University of Toronto Press in 2014.  Varela will receive an honorary degree from Queen's during convocation ceremonies in June 2014.
