Maria Moncur specializes in 19th century North American cultural and intellectual history, with a focus on comparative memory and commemoration. Her dissertation, under the supervision of Dr. Jeffrey McNairn, will be an examination of War of 1812 memories in Ontario and New York from 1815 through 1915, focusing on the political, social, and economic uses and ramifications of historical narratives and commemorative actions.
