About

After completing my undergraduate coursework with a focus on modern European history, I took a year off to work and travel Europe.  I then began studies for my Masters of Museum Studies.  Though I was introducted to many facets of museum work, I was able to focus my research on Museum Education, Living History Interpretation, and Museum Theatre.

I will defend my doctoral thesis September 2011.  My study, co-supervised by Dr. Karen Dubinsky and Dr. Caroline-Isabelle Caron, examines how gender history is being presented at living history sites in Ontario and how its representation has changed over time.  Drawing upon archival documents, site observation, surveys, and interviews with site employees I compare the programming and information each site presents with the larger web of information available.  This identifies those aspects of the past the site highlights and those it treats superficially or omits altogether.  I also look at how the interrelation of historic sites and the tourism industry has affected the content of historic sites.

In 2011 I joined the staff of the Museum of Health Care at Kingston as the Assistant Curator.
