Honours BA - McMaster University

About

Emily LeDuc is currently pursuing her MA in History under the supervision of Dr. Karen Dubinsky. Emily comes to Queen's after completing an Honours BA in History and English & Cultural Studies at McMaster University. Her field of interest is twentieth century North American History, with a specific focus on cultural exchanges between Canada and the United States. Thematically, Emily is most engaged when she can utilize products of popular culture to understand how we interact with narrative-style histories and popular memory, particularly when those products involve issues of gender and race. Emily recently completed an undergraduate thesis that examines the history of the Disney heroine and her impact on popular youth culture. She hopes to extend this research by mapping the effect of children's media on popular Historical narratives. She strongly advocates for a shift away from linear narratives in current History curricula, instead promoting historical discovery through critical thinking and the use of educational multi-media. Some of her other interests include: language studies, blogging, outdoor activities, travel and dinner parties with family and friends.
