About

James studied for his Bachelor of Arts degree at Oxford University in the United Kingdom, where he took a First-Class in Classics, having focused on Greek and Roman history and Greek literature, including a thesis on the rarely studied second-century A.D. Greek author Polyaenus. He is now enrolled on a one-year History MA at Queen's in the academic year 09/10.

James' focus is on the Eastern Roman Empire of late antiquity and the Byzantine period, with particular reference to its politics, society and culture. He is taking directed reading courses with Prof. Richard Greenfield and also with Prof. George Bevan of the Classics department, and will complete his MA with a thesis. He is also acting as a teaching assistant in late antique history and ancient epic poetry.
