About

I am an upper-year PhD candidate focusing on anti-Bolshevik Russian exiles in interwar Paris under the supervision of Ana Siljak and Rebecca Manley.  Most scholarship in this field studies the émigrés' cultural life and mission to preserve their 'Russianness' in exile.  My work takes the point of view that Russianness is a contested category.  It explores the myriad ways Russian political exiles articulated their 'mission' abroad, what political activities they engaged in and why, what visions of an ideal post-Bolshevik Russian nation-state they shared and contested, and ultimately how these contributed to their own sense of self as both a Russian and Russian exile community.
