The HMRC-CREATE mentorship framework features an individualized, one-on-one mentor-mentee relationships as the primary mentoring approach. However, ateam-based mentoring approach is also incorporated within the Integrated Research Teams (IRTs).
Each trainee will continue to receive additional support and mentoring from one's advisory committee (IRT members), other faculty members, and the HMRC-CREATE program staff. This mentorship approach values the existence of other resources persons and seeks to maximize the benefits of mentorship by engaging the fellows and trainees as mentors for undergraduate students.
Interns, trainees, and fellows are also supported by a network of faculty and staff members who serve on the HMRC-CREATE Program and Management committees and the three working groups (Awards and Selection; Curriculum, and Evaluation). These committee members work behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of the program.Other mentoring relationships may emerge or continue alongside the primary relationships mentioned earlier.
