Phase 2: Orientation

There are various workshops to orient different program stakeholders. Please check the announcements page for workshop dates.

Trainee Orientation (group session)
This orientation session occurs during the first meeting of the new trainees/interns/fellows at the beginning of the Fall/Winter terms.
  • Familiarize the trainees with the program, faculty, staff, and facilities 
  • Discuss the program and learners' expectations
  • Conduct a needs assessment
  • Offers an opportunity to obtain learners' feedback
  • Present key program documents and resources available
Mentor-Mentee Orientation Workshop (one-on-one session)

A one-on-one orientation session between the mentor and mentee occurs at the beginning of one's program. An orientation session should be scheduled prior to engaging in any professional development or IRT activities. This workshop provides an opportunity for the mentor and mentee to:

  • Get acquainted with one another
  • Clarify mentoring expectations and goals and develop a mentoring agreement
  • Discuss the results of the needs assessment
  • Develop a learning plan to guide one's program
  • Initiate a plan of action
Mentor and Supervisor Orientation Workshop (group or one-on-one session)

This workshop provides an opportunity for the mentors and supervisors to:

  • Clarify mentor-mentee expectations and program goals
  • Distinguish between supervisor's and mentor's roles
  • Discuss the assessment and evaluation framework
  • Present key program documents and resources available
 IRT Orientation Workshop (group session)

This workshop provides an opportunity for all the members of an Integrated Research Team (IRT) to:

  • Clarify the role of IRT members and project deliverables
  • Launch the IRT projects
  • Opportunity for feedback from team members
