  • Public Sector Salary Disclosure

    The Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 requires that the University disclose the salary and benefits paid in respect to employment by the University to faculty and staff who had earnings in the previous year of $100,000 or more.

    T4s and T4As have been issued by internal mail for all active employees (just as pay stubs are issued); T4s and T4As for all others were issued through Canada Post to the address on file with Queen’s Human Resources.

  • Employee 2012 T4 and T4As mailed to home address

    This communication is to advise employees that 2012 T4 and T4As will be mailed to home addresses by February 28. Please review your home address on the top left corner of your paystub (see sample below), to ensure your T4 and/or T4A is sent to the correct address.

  • January payments to Graduate Research Assistants - UPDATE

    An issue has been identified regarding the dollar amount of payments made to a number of Graduate Research Assistants for the period ending January 31, 2013. The original payments were issued by Electronic Funds Transfer yesterday morning (Tuesday January 29th), and accompanying Payment Advice emails were sent out accordingly. It was identified that a number of these payments were for incorrect dollar amounts, following which a second round of payments were calculated to adjust total amounts paid out up to the proper amounts for the affected Graduate Research Assistants. This second round of payments has been processed today (Wednesday, January 30th), and therefore, the issue of incorrect payment amounts is now resolved.

  • Upcoming Changes to Payroll Cut-Off Dates

    The February and March monthly payroll calendars have been established. Please take note of the early payroll deadline dates of February 13th and March 14th to accommodate the production of T4s and the year-end process. The monthly payroll calendars for the remainder of the year will be posted by March 31st, 2013.

    Queen's University is committed to ensuring the well-being of all community members in the event of an emergency. Creating emergency response plans for staff and faculty is one of many initiatives The University is undertaking in order be fully accessible by 2025 as mandated by the Ontario government’s Access for Ontarians Disability Act (AODA).   • Additional Voluntary Contributions by Monthly Payroll Deduction

    Members of the Queens Pension Plan can make Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs) by payroll deduction each month without interruption, subject to a monthly contribution limit based on annual pensionable salary.

  • HR Office Closed - January 25

    The HR Office will be closed from 12:50 pm to 4:30 pm on Friday, January 25, 2013, to allow staff to attend a meeting. The office will reopen on Monday, January 28, 2013.

    In collaboration with the Queen's Industrial Relations Centre (IRC), Queen's Human Resources (HR) is offering a specialized two day workshop "Managing in a Unionized Environment".

  • Pension Plan Annual General Meeting

    The annual general meeting of members of the Queen's Pension Plan, including retired members is Friday December 7, 2012 from 1pm to 3pm in Dunning Hall Auditorium.

  • Mental Health First Aid Training

    Student Affairs is offering a 2-day course to improve mental health literacy at Queen’s. Spots for the upcoming session being held Tuesday, December 11 and Wednesday, December 12 are available to staff, faculty, and students.

  • HR PeopleSoft Paystub Year to Date Totals

    Since the PeopleSoft implementation in March, YTD totals on paystubs did not include January and February 2012 earnings and deductions. This is because as we transitioned to PeopleSoft, YTD totals from the legacy system had to be converted and tested before being included on paystubs. Testing is complete and YTD totals on November paystubs will reflect current amounts for the 2012 calendar year.

    Take Our Kids to Work Day is a national program for Grade 9 students organized by “The Learning Partnership” which many schools and employers across the country participate in. This program highlights the importance of education, skills development, and training while giving the Grade 9 students the opportunity to experience the world of work and the variety of career opportunities available to them.

  • Annual AVC lump sum contributions due by November 9

    Members of the Queens Pension Plan (QPP) with pensionable earnings under $155,000 can make Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs) to their pension accounts in one of two ways, either by monthly payroll deduction or by a single lump sum payment at the end of the year.

  • HR Client Service Team (CST) Faculty/Portfolio Update

    Seven months ago, Human Resources introduced the Client Service Team (CST) to the university at the same time as our transition to HR PeopleSoft. Since that time, we have had an opportunity to reflect on our ability to provide effective service to our clients and are pleased to announce the two final HR Advisor roles within CST have been filled. Resulting adjustments to client service portfolios have been made where necessary to better meet our client needs.

  • Canada Savings Bonds

    The Bank of Canada Plan registration System will be available starting Monday, October 01, 2012 and will be available until 8:00 am November 01, 2012.

  • HR Office Closed – October 12

    The HR Office will be closed from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Friday, October 12, 2012, to allow staff to attend a meeting. The office will open and the main phone line will be answered after 12:30 pm, Friday.

  • Update- Letter distribution regarding retroactive salary adjustments for employees in the USW Bargaining Unit

    Letters will be distributed over the next few days (between Oct 5 and Oct 10) for those employees who received retroactive salary payments that were processed in the September monthly pay for the period of July 1, 2011 – June 30 2012 and July 1, 2012 – August 31, 2012.

  • Special Recognition for Staff Award Nominations

    The Special Recognition for Staff Award recognizes staff members who consistently provide outstanding contributions during their workday, directly or indirectly, to the learning and working environment at Queen’s University at a level significantly beyond what is usually expected (e.g. improving the workplace efficiency, quality of worklife, customer services, problem –solving, etc.).

  • Retroactive payments for Employees in USW 2010 Bargaining Unit

    The United Steelworkers (USW) 2010 collective agreement was ratified on August 7, 2012. Salary adjustments for eligible employees in the USW Bargaining Unit were processed in the September monthly pay.

  • HR PeopleSoft Training Sessions for Timekeepers of USW Bargaining Unit Employees

    HR PeopleSoft Training Sessions for Timekeepers of USW bargaining unit employees will be offered in October. The course will provide participants with an in-depth understanding of existing Time Reporting Codes (TRC), Compensatory Plans (i.e. Overtime) and Schedules in HR PeopleSoft Time and Labour. Also covered will be new Time Reporting Codes (TRC) and Compensatory Plans for USW bargaining unit employees.

  • Learning Catalogue Now Available for Registration

    Staff who aspire to improving their skills and deepen their knowledge can sign up for a variety of individual workshops and certificate programs offered by Human Resources. Workshops begin the last week of September and continue through to the end of June.

  • Casual and Biweekly Payroll Cut-Off Change

    The Casual and Biweekly payroll cut-off for the September 28th pay date has been changed to Monday September 17th at 4:30pm. This change is required as there are three pays occurring on September 28th, 2012 (Biweekly, Casual and Monthly).

  • Removal of Position Re-evaluation Freeze for General Staff

    The re-evaluation freeze that has been in place for positions in grades 2 through 9 (including General Staff, Research and United Steelworkers 2010 bargaining unit positions) will be removed, effective September 1, 2012.

  • Legislation freezes executive compensation

    Bill 55, provincial legislation passed in June, amends the Broader Sector Accountability Act, 2010 to include restraints on compensation for designated executives. These restraints are retroactive to March 31, 2012 replacing ones that expired then. While the university must abide by Bill 55 and the limits it places on broader public sector compensation, this in no way diminishes the value the university places on the employees’ contributions, nor on the significance of those contributions to the university’s collective commitment to excellence.

  • Timing of QUASR Transition

    The QUASR Executive Committee met earlier today and reviewed progress towards the January 1st implementation date for QUASR. The Executive Committee decided to provide extra time to ensure that configurations for individual departments and final updates to the system identified through extensive user testing have been verified. It will also provide an extra measure of assurance that appropriate security controls are in place as well as client services and help desk support for users during the transition. The new system will be implemented by the end of February, at the latest.
