Benefit Premiums Update for Members of the Group Benefit Plans

The Human Resources, Total Compensation unit recently concluded the annual review of the group benefit program with the University’s provider, Great-West Life. Most premiums for 2013-14 have slightly increased and the new rates, effective July 1, 2013, are as follows:

Supplementary Medical

The University will continue to pay 100% of premium costs for all active employee groups. This includes coverage for Out of Canada emergency care and Vision Care. Retirees will continue with the current cost share arrangement of premiums. Monthly premiums are as follows:

Long Term Disability

The rate for long term disability will increase from 1.491% to 1.655% of a monthly salary. Maximum monthly salaries will be applied, if applicable. This benefit is fully paid by participating employees. As a result, income from this benefit is tax free.
