Annual Employee Benefit Premium Update 2019

The Human Resources, Total Compensation unit and Great-West Life, the University’s group benefit provider, recently concluded the annual review of the premium rates for the Queen’s group benefit program. The following tables show the premium rates that were in place over the previous year and the new premium rates that will take effect on July 1, 2019.

The Employee Benefits Plan Review is still underway. Further details will be communicated later in the summer. At this time, there are no changes to existing coverage or claim submission. For more information, please visit the Employee Benefits Plan Review on the HR website.

Supplementary Medical

The University will continue to pay 100% of premium rate costs for all active employee groups. This includes coverage for Out of Canada Emergency Care and Vision Care. Retirees will continue with the current cost share arrangement of premium rates.  The premium rates for supplementary medical will remain unchanged.  Monthly premium rates are as follows:

Semi-Private Hospitalization

This benefit is fully paid by employees who elect to participate.  The premium rates for semi-private hospitalization will remain unchanged.  Monthly premium rates are as follows:

Dental

Basic Life Insurance

Long Term Disability

The premium rate for long term disability will decrease by 14% from 2.129% to 1.831% of a monthly salary. Maximum monthly premiums will be applied where applicable. This benefit is fully paid by participating employees. As a result, income from this benefit is tax free.
