INFORMATION SESSIONS & RATIFICATION OF NEW COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT
The Union has scheduled information meetings as follows:
Two information meetings have been scheduled in to permit all employees in to attend, while at the same time ensuring that departments/units are able to continue operations.
Managers can, and should, approve employees' requests for leave to attend one of these meetings based on the specific operational needs of their department/work unit, such that not all employees are away from work at the same time.
Also, please note that the 2-hour period for each meeting includes employees' lunch period - attendance at one of the Union's information meetings will necessitate only 1 hour of paid time away from work for each employee (plus a reasonable amount of time on either side of the meeting to travel to and from the meeting venue – of course, this will depend on each employee's work location vis-à-vis the meeting location).
Polling stations for the ratification vote will be open as follows:
The Union has scheduled the ratification vote in such a way that staff should have ample time on either polling day to cast a ballot before work, during the lunch hour, or, after work.
The Union has advised that the ratification vote will be by paper ballot only - there will be no proxy voting permitted.
Managers may want to contact staff members who are away on vacation or other leave to let them know about the information meetings and the ratification vote.
The Employee/Labour Relations Unit of Human Resources has scheduled four ½-day information sessions for non-union managers/supervisors and faculty on August 9th and 15th. There will be a morning session and an afternoon session on each of these dates.
Please save the date to attend one of these sessions.
Attendance at one of these sessions is a requirement for all non-union employees and faculty who manage/supervise members of the USW Local 2010 bargaining unit.
Confirmation of these information sessions, along with details about location(s), how to register, etc., will be announced following the conclusion of the ratification process.
Recognizing that August is a very busy vacation time for many people, if necessary the University will schedule a date for an additional managers'/supervisors' information session in early September.
If you are unsure as to whether a member of your General Support Staff (grades 2-9) is included in the bargaining unit, please contact Lisa Newton (extension 75108; email: email@example.com).
